Description du contenu de l'enseignement

The objective of this teaching unit is to make students aware of the main ‘green’ solvents and modes of activation currently available to organic chemists.
  1. Why shifting from standard to alternative solvents and modes of activation ? An introduction in the context of Green Chemistry.
  2. Modern solvents/media – Description within the Green Chemistry context, scope of applications in organic synthesis & representative examples of use in Industry. Focus on : water, ionic liquids, deep eutectic solvents, supercritical solvents, perfluorinated solvents, biomass-derived solvents, solvent-free chem.
  3. Alternative modes of activation – Description within the Green Chemistry context & scope of applications in organic synthesis. Focus on : photochem, high pressure chem, microwave chem, mechanochem, sonochem, flow chem.

Compétences à acquérir

  • Anticipate & understand the effects of solvents and activation modes on relevant organic transformations.
  • Design in a rationale manner a ‘greener’ route for the synthesis of a product of interest by exploiting modern solvents and activation modes.
  • Apply environmentally-friendly technologies/methods in organic synthesis.
